Sébastien Mouffe est un architecte belge basé à Namur, en Belgique. Il a étudié l’architecture à l’Institut Saint-Luc de Liège ainsi qu’à l’École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Marseille, deux formations complémentaires qui ont façonné son approche sensible et innovante de l’architecture. Diplômé en 1998, Sébastien Mouffe a débuté sa carrière en tant qu’architecte indépendant avant de co-fonder l’agence Subwayarchitecture avec Nicolas Janssens en 2005. Subwayarchitecture a initialement orienté ses activités vers des projets en structure bois, conjuguant une architecture bioclimatique avec des solutions innovantes destinées à une clientèle de particuliers soucieux de durabilité et d’intégration environnementale. Ces premières réalisations, saluées pour leur ingéniosité, ont propulsé l’agence vers des projets plus complexes, notamment la conception de maisons médicales à travers toute la Wallonie. Ces expériences ont ouvert la voie au secteur médical, culminant dans une commande majeure : la conception d’un bâtiment accueillant un accélérateur de particules. Ce projet, mené en collaboration avec Modello, a mis en avant la capacité de Subwayarchitecture à humaniser des infrastructures industrielles complexes, souvent perçues comme intimidantes par le grand public. Malgré cette diversification, l’agence reste fidèle à ses origines. La construction en bois demeure au cœur de ses activités, notamment à travers des commandes publiques ambitieuses, comme un marché cadre visant à réaliser 800 logements sociaux en bois à haute performance énergétique (HPE) dans toute la Wallonie. L’expertise de l’agence a également traversé les frontières. Une première incursion à l’international a eu lieu en Suisse, avec la réalisation d’une habitation ambitieuse en structure bois. Ce projet s’est démarqué par un budget remarquablement bas, défiant les standards suisses, où les constructions audacieuses à faible coût sont devenues rares. Cette expérience en Suisse a servi de tremplin pour exporter le savoir-faire de Subwayarchitecture vers l’Asie. Depuis 2022, l’agence réalise des résidences en Thaïlande, mêlant principes bioclimatiques et intégration harmonieuse dans des paysages tropicaux. Ces projets, bien que destinés à une clientèle prestigieuse, s’inscrivent dans la continuité de la philosophie de l’agence : offrir une architecture durable et respectueuse de son environnement.En parallèle, Labo-M, l’agence de scénographie fondée par Sébastien Mouffe, explore de nouveaux horizons créatifs. Sébastien Mouffe is a Belgian architect based in Namur, Belgium. These experiences paved the way to the medical sector, culminating in a major commission: designing a facility to house a particle accelerator. This project, carried out in collaboration with Modello, highlighted Subwayarchitecture’s ability to humanize complex industrial infrastructures that are often perceived as intimidating by the general public. Despite its diversification, the agency remains true to its roots. Wood construction continues to be at the heart of its work, notably through ambitious public projects like a framework agreement to build 800 energy-efficient social housing units in Wallonia using sustainable wood structures. The agency’s expertise has also crossed borders. Its first international venture took place in Switzerland, where it completed an ambitious wooden structure residence. This project stood out for its remarkably low budget, defying Swiss standards where bold, cost-effective construction has become increasingly rare. The Swiss experience served as a springboard to export Subwayarchitecture’s know-how to Asia. Since 2022, the agency has been designing residences in Thailand, blending bioclimatic principles with harmonious integration into tropical landscapes. These projects, while intended for a prestigious clientele, align with the agency’s core philosophy: delivering architecture that is sustainable and respectful of its environment. At the same time, Labo-M, a scenography agency founded by Sébastien Mouffe, explores new creative territories.
